Community Partners
What Are Community Partners?
Community Partners are organizations, programs, and initiatives that actively collaborate with True North Recovery Collective to serve individuals and families in need. These partnerships may include vocational programs, outreach initiatives, donation-based projects, volunteer efforts, and service providers who align with our mission.
Rather than working in isolation, we believe in building networks of support that bring together skills, resources, and shared values to create lasting impact.
Why Have Community Partners?
True North Recovery Collective believes that lasting recovery and meaningful reintegration happen through connection, purpose, and community. Our work is strengthened by partnerships with organizations and initiatives that share our commitment to restoration, dignity, and service.
Our Community Partners help us expand opportunities for people in recovery, reduce barriers to stability, and meet practical needs through collaborative, hands-on programs. Together, we create pathways that support both individual healing and stronger communities.
Wheels Up
Wheels Up Communal Transportation Initiative
Wheels Up is a community-driven bike rebuild and donation initiative focused on restoring donated bicycles and providing them to individuals who lack reliable or affordable transportation. Through hands-on refurbishment and community distribution, Wheels Up combines skill-building, sustainability, and service into one impactful program.
This initiative creates opportunities for meaningful vocational and rehabilitative work while directly addressing transportation barriers faced by many people in recovery and reentry.
The Need
Reliable transportation is a major barrier for individuals working to rebuild their lives. Many people in recovery, on parole, or facing financial hardship struggle to access employment, services, and community connections due to lack of transportation.
At the same time, many donated bicycles sit unused, broken, or discarded. Wheels Up bridges this gap by restoring these bikes and putting them back into the community—creating opportunity, reducing waste, and meeting real needs.
How the Program Works
Bike Rebuild & Community Donation Process
- Collection & Intake: Bicycles are donated through community drives and individual contributions. Each bike is assessed and sorted as salvageable, restorable, or scrap.
- Rebuild Phase: In a designated workshop environment, salvageable bikes are cleaned, repaired, and refurbished. Worn or unsafe components such as brakes, cables, chains, tires, and tubes are repaired or replaced as needed.
- Quality Control & Safety Inspection: Every rebuilt bike undergoes a thorough safety check to ensure it meets safe operation standards before being donated.
- Distribution: Bikes are donated to individuals and families in need through community outreach and partner networks. Recipients receive basic safety information and orientation as appropriate.
- Record-Keeping & Reporting: The program tracks the number of bikes rebuilt, materials used, labor time, and community impact to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
Looking Ahead
Wheels Up is designed to grow sustainably. The program begins with a pilot phase focused on small-scale rebuilding and evaluation, followed by gradual expansion as systems, partnerships, and resources develop.
Future goals include:
- Ongoing community bike donation drives
- Expanded volunteer involvement
- Partnerships with local bike shops and sponsors
- Increased production capacity and community outreach
- Documenting outcomes to support replication in other communities
